The significance of visual research and exploration in developing a design language as individuals or industries cannot be overstated. These practices allow us to expand our knowledge and skills by experimenting with new tools and methodologies that bring out our creativity and innovative thinking. At the heart of this process is the potential to learn new skills that can be applied to create context, which is what Lynn Rosa Haag, a student in my course, did. Through her exploration, she developed a unique 3D style that will be used on skateboards, illustrating the importance of exploring new techniques before applying them to specific tasks.
As a teacher, my primary motivation is to bring joy back to learning. The focus of my course was on the learning process rather than the final result. The course was structured in such a way that students were motivated by their own interests and passions, rather than by a set task. This unconventional approach allowed them to explore the potential of Blender and Touchdesigner software at an intermediate level without being bogged down by fundamentals. By focusing on the process of learning a new program, rather than producing a specific outcome, students were able to unleash their creativity and develop their own unique styles.
Lorenz Weiland's experience further supports the efficacy of this unconventional approach. Despite having no prior knowledge of the software, Lorenz was highly motivated by what he learned in the first few weeks of the course, and he actively sought out additional resources to accelerate his learning. This approach not only encourages individual exploration and creativity but also creates a collaborative and supportive environment where students can share ideas and learn from each other.
In today's fast-paced world, staying relevant and keeping up with the latest technologies is crucial. The rise of AI means that learning new software and methodologies is more important than ever. I encourage everyone to go out and learn new skills, experiment with new tools, and continually explore the potential of the latest technologies. The hashtag "hire a human" may provide some relief, but it is essential to stay ahead of the curve by being a lifelong learner. By doing so, we can continue to expand our creativity, knowledge, and skills to contribute meaningfully to the industry and society.
